If you have been to Pennington Field Stadium in the last two months, chances are you saw things are starting to look a little different. In April of this year, The Plaque Project began and every inductee plaque and picture was removed from the walls of the stadium. After many years of exposure to the elements, some of the photos were in poor shape. Matting had watermarks and mold from moisture inside the frames and some frames were cracked or coming part. The photos were sent off to Bowie On Bowie, a custom picture framer, where they were removed from their frames, restored and re-framed. Where we previously had different colors and styles of frames, we now have one cohesive design. Every frame is identical and complements the plaque it is paired with. Once the plaques came down, each was power-washed within an inch of its life. When they went back up, they were virtually gleaming! The new layout design calls for odd number years of induction to one side of the stadium entrance and even numbers on the other side. By the time the 2019-2020 school year officially begins, all plaques and photos should be in place with room for more to be added in the years to come. All the plaque project work is being done by V/GO, Inc. The Plaque Project gives a much needed face lift to the Sports Hall of Fame at Pennington Field Stadium and gives us room to grow so we may continue to honor HEB Sports Hall of Fame inductees and teams. This project is just one example of how we put foundation money to use. Remember, as a non-profit, we rely completely upon donations to pay for everything. That includes every single inductee plaque and photo, the inductee banquet and scholarships for young athletes from L.D. Bell and Trinity High School. Without community support (that's YOU), we would not be able to do what we do. It is only with your support that we can continue to celebrate these exceptional individuals and teams; stimulate interest in youth sports; and last but not least, honor those who have served as an inspiration to so many. If you currently support the HEB Sports Hall of Fame through donations, we thank you. Your contribution is helping us make things happen! By September 2019, we will have plaques and photos spanning 21 years (that's from 1995 to 2016). So where are the other four year's worth of plaques? Unfortunately, inductees from 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 don't have plaques up on the walls of Pennington Field Stadium yet. The good news is, every donation gets us closer to being able to get another year's plaques ordered. In fact, if each person reading this article right now clicked the Donation button below and made a one time Level 4 Donation of $75 (that's $2.50 a day for just one month), we would be able to purchase the 2017 plaques tomorrow!
