Kyle Cobern was born on January 17, 1967 in Brenham, TX and is a lifelong resident of HEB. He attended Hurst Hills Elementary, Hurst Junior High and graduated from L.D. Bell High School in 1985. Throughout his scholastic career, Kyle was a multi-sport athlete, participating in football, basketball, track, and lettered all 3 years in baseball at Bell. He was active socially in high school as a member of Student Council, Class Council and Senior Class President.
Kyle began his coaching career at the age of 16, as an assistant coach with the Giants of MidCities PeeWee Football. Over the next thirty-one years, he expanded his coaching activities to include baseball, basketball, various youth camps and mentorship programs. In that span, he coached over 40 youth football teams, 50 baseball teams, and 10 youth basketball teams, at all levels ranging from t-ball and flag football all the way to the high school and collegiate levels. While winning was never his primary focus, Coach Kyle’s emphasis to his players about fundamentals, giving maximum effort, competing at the highest level and the importance of doing the very best they can with the talents that they were given, on and off the field, led to numerous championships, a handful of professional sports careers, and more importantly, thousands of successful young men and women living in, working in and positively impacting the HEB community today. Coach Kyle served in various capacities on the Boards of Tri-Cities Baseball, Mid Cities Basketball, Mid Cities Youth Activities Council and Mid Cities Pee Wee Football & Cheer. He has also been able to serve the community through his BACKJAM Sports organization which runs various sports camps including the BACKJAM Basketball Camp and the HEB30 Football Camp for kids in the HEB and surrounding areas. Kyle is a graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas A&M University in College Station. He’s married to his wife Trasa, and after a successful twenty-year career in the financial industry, recently joined her as a teacher in HEBISD. Together they have four sons: Brady, Caden, Jaxon and McCrae. Kyle still remains very active as a youth advocate in the local community. |
