George Charles Clark, Sr. grew up in White Settlement, Texas, where he attended school and graduated from C.F. Brewer High School in 1963. While at Brewer, George excelled in athletics, lettering in five sports. He was a two-year letterman in golf, a three-year letterman in football, basketball, and baseball, and a four-year letterman in tennis. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from what was then North Texas State University, and is now UNT. George was inducted into the Brewer High School Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.
George says he was blessed to begin his career in Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD in 1967, where he remained until his retirement in 2019. Having spent an incredible 52 years as a teacher, coach, and administrator, he will proudly proclaim to anyone that HEB ISD is one of the best districts in the state, where students can receive a quality education, and the administration, teachers, coaches, and support staff are second to none. George’s career began as a teacher and coach at Hurst Junior High. While there, he was selected Teacher of the Year by his peers. He coached a Red Raider 9th grade football team that was undefeated and unscored on over a ten-game season, a feat that had not been done before or has not been done since. After 13 years at Hurst, George moved into administration as an assistant principal where he served at Hurst Junior High, Central Junior High, Harwood Junior High, and Trinity High School. He was selected as President of the Administrator’s Association and served as a summer school principal in 1995. Over the years, George held positions in several community service programs including commissioner of Mid-Cities Youth Activities Council which allocates school district facilities to local youth recreational sports programs, coach for Mid-Cities Little Dribblers basketball league, member of the HEB Optimist Club, and coordinator of district cross country meets each year. Additionally, George earned community recognition with his selection as a Legacy Builder for the district’s School & Family magazine and was featured in an article in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram that reflected on his career and service. George states that the most important thing in his life is his family. He and his wife, Mary, have two wonderful boys and a daughter-in-law, four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He says Mary is the glue that holds their family together, and she has always been very supportive throughout his career. It is because of her, he says, “I lived the dream.” |
