Sue has been a basketball coach for 45 years. Sue coached 31 years at Trinity High School; 10 years at West Orange Stark High School; and four years between Bishop Bryne High School, Durham Academy and University of North Carolina. Sue retired with 1,117 high school wins, an average of 24.8 wins per year.
In 1985-1986 she was Vice President and 1986-1987 President in of the Texas Girls Coaches Association. In 2007, Sue was “Coach of the Year” for the Lay Witness for Christ. In 2009, Sue was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball “Hall of Fame”. In 2011, she received the UIL Excellence Award. Sue was named “District Coach of the Year” 29 times while basketball coaching at Trinity High School and West Orange Stark High School. Sue co-directed the University of North Carolina girls’ basketball camps with the legendary Coach Dean Smith. When she achieved her 1,000th career win, Sue was featured in the Texas School Business Magazine in the section titled “Who’s News.” In 2013, Sue coached the Texas Sports Hall of Fame All-Star game at Baylor University and was featured in Sports Illustrated as a “Face in the News.” In 2014, Sue was the 37th person inducted into the Texas Girls Coaches Association. A multitude of her basketball players were selected as First Team All-District, All-Region and All-State. In addition, over 50 former basketball players received college scholarships. Currently, Sue is enjoying retirement, visiting friends and playing golf. |
