John was an HEB community sports activist for over four decades.  John coached football, basketball and baseball.  He was Head football coach for the Mid-Cities Pee-Wee Football Senior League from 1987 until 2013.  John was Senior League Coach of the Year in 1995 and 2003.  In 1996, his team was undefeated in both the regular and play-off season.  John coached three Senior League Teams to Super Bowls in 1996, 1999 and 2003.  The 2003 game went into triple overtime!
 
In 1980, he had two sons play football and one daughter was in Mid-Cities Pee Wee Football and Cheerleading Association. 
 
As part of the Mid-Cities Little Dribblers Basketball Association, John was head coach for the Major Boys League from 1984-1992.
 
In Tri-Cities Baseball, John was a coach for Bronco, Pony and City Leagues from 1984-1994.   He served as Bronco and Pony League Commissioner for four years, as well as, Director of Rules and Protests for one year.
